Date: 14 December 2006 to 30 June 2009.

Place: Textile Museum and Documentation Centre.

Organized by: Textile Museum and Documentation Centre.

Description: Flowers and plants are everywhere in modernist decorations. But are these plants always the same?

And if they are, are the ones we find in fabrics, on tiles, on glass and on wood the same as the ones in the gardens of the period, with their literary references, the fragrances and the favourite colours of the modernists?

What were the reference points that the modernists used – real landscapes, or fantasies evoking exotic places?

This exhibition presents the preliminary results of the research project carried out in conjunction with the Institute of Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona analysing 600 fabrics from the CDMT. It displays a good number of recent acquisitions, alongside glass, ceramics, jewellery, perfume and illustrations from a variety of museums and private collections.

The exhibition takes us on a symbolic journey, from the house, to the garden, out to the crop fields and then to the forest and the mountain.

THE MODERNIST STYLE HERBARIUM is part of the permanent program on THE TEXTILES OF MODERNISM, and is an important new addition to the industrial and modernist heritage that makes the city of Terrassa unique.
